Approach
My approach to writing is grounded in structure, curiosity, and clarity.
Whether I’m developing a federal proposal, refining governance documentation, or building a knowledge repository, I start by understanding the purpose behind the document. Who is it for? What decisions will it inform? What problem is it trying to solve?
That context shapes everything that follows.
I Start With Structure
Before I write, I map the framework. For proposals, that means breaking down solicitation requirements and evaluation criteria. For technical documentation, it means defining scope, organizing content, and identifying the intended audience.
I’ve learned that when structure is clear, writing becomes sharper, and revisions become fewer.
I Ask Better Questions
Working with subject matter experts is one of the most important parts of my process. I focus on asking questions that move beyond general explanations and uncover measurable impact, technical nuance, and real-world application.
Often, clarity isn’t about simplifying; it’s about refining.
I Think About the Reader
I’m always considering how someone will move through the content. I pay attention to hierarchy, formatting, diagrams, and visual cues so the document feels intuitive rather than dense.
If a reviewer has to work hard to understand something, I see that as a signal to improve the structure, not the reader.
I Build for Sustainability
I try not to create documentation that lives in isolation. I design templates, knowledge structures, and reusable frameworks that make future work more efficient and consistent.
Over time, that approach compounds. Teams move faster. Rework decreases. Institutional knowledge becomes easier to access.
I Use AI With Intention
AI tools are part of my workflow, but they are not the workflow. I develop structured prompts and validation checks to support drafting, aggregation, and normalization — while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
Technology is useful when it’s governed thoughtfully.
I Refine Through Review
Iteration is part of the process. Whether through color-team reviews or structured editorial passes, I refine content deliberately, strengthening clarity, alignment, and defensibility before it moves forward.
